Yesterday, Arvest Bank off 135th & 69hwy in Overland Park, KS partnered up with RecycleWorks to host a successfull e-waste drive. The purpose of the drive was two fold. One, to build awareness about the hazardous nature of electronics ending up in our landfills, and two to divert as much e-waste from the landfills as possible. RecycleWorks has not officialy weighed all the e-waste collected. However, they are confindent there was around 10,000 pounds diverted! “Thanks to Rick Dierks at Arvest Bank, this event was made into a huge success”, said President Jake Knopke. “It is wonderful that Arvest Bank has the desire to be involved in their community”.

Throwing away e-waste is a bad, bad thing. RecycleWorks has decided to make it easy for communities to get rid of their e-waste in a responsible manner.

90% of all e-waste is reusable, which can save material and scarce resources in the manufacturing process. That’s a great thing considering rapidly developing technology makes many electronics obsolete after just 18 months.

Recycling e-waste keeps some pretty nasty and downright hazardous materials like lead, mercury and arsenic, out of our landfills and ecosystem.

Free e-waste drop off

Most homes and businesses have it, but don’t know how or where to get rid of it—electronic waste.

Here’s your chance…
RecycleWorks offers free e-waste recycling drives around the KC Metro area for:

HOAs

Apartment complexes

Churches

Businesses (office parks and large corporations)

How it works:

Call to schedule a collection day

We provide a truck staffed with trained collection specialists

Simply drop off unwanted electronics at the designated collection site

We haul it away free of charge* and see that it is recycled responsibly

*Small ($10) fee for each CRT or LCD monitor.

What can we take?

If it has lights, buttons or cords, we’ll take it:

Cell phones/PDAs/Pagers

Appliances

Batteries (Lithium and car batteries only)

All computers & equipment

We’ll do our part.

Every piece of e-waste we collect is recycled domestically by certified third-party facilities that properly handle 100% of the materials—from plastic and glass to precious metals and hazardous materials.

Plus we make it easy and free for you to do your part.

Since there are strict standards for dumping electronics, it’s never a good idea to just put it in your regular trash. But finding a proper e-waste disposal site can be time consuming and expensive. And with new technology as affordable as old, there isn’t much garage sale value for any of it. That leaves you looking for the best way to get rid of it…

Call today to schedule an e-waste collection day with RecycleWorks!

RecycleWorks has blown away all internal expectations when it comes to waste diversion. This number is all inclusive of paper, cardboard, aluminum, plastic and all other metals recycled. We are confident we will recycle over 1,000,000 pounds of materials by the end of 2012! That is 500 tons of material diverted from the landfill.

We will also be rolling out an electronic waste (e-waste) recycling program by the end of January. Once the program is in full operation we will update you on the details.

Report: 75% recycling rate would create 1.5 million jobs

Nov. 14 — Nearly 1.5 million more recycling jobs would be created if the national recycling rate reached 75%, according to a recent report.

“More Jobs, Less Pollution: Growing the Recycling Economy in the U.S.,” released by Tellus Institute and Sound Resource Management, also said that the higher recycling rate would mean reduced pollution and improved public health, along with generating strong local economies with stable employment bases.

“While the vast majority of municipal solid waste can be readily recycled, re-used, or composted, only 33% is currently diverted from disposal,” according to the report. “Most of our discards are still sent to landfills and incinerators.”

According to the report, not only would reaching a 75% national recycling rate create nearly 1.5 million more jobs than in 2008, but it also would reduce CO2 emissions by 276 million metric tons by 2030. This is equivalent to 72 coal-fired power plants or taking 50 million cars off the road, the report said.

RecycleWorks is already surpassing our expectations in our commitment
to keeping more materials out of area landfills. RecycleWorks proudly announces, that after two
short months of actual operations, we have diverted over 20,000 pounds of
materials from local landfills.
RecycleWorks, was founded in May, 2011, however, sales and operations commenced
in early September. Since that date, the
dedicated staff and clients of RecycleWorks have achieved a huge milestone. The owners always knew they would reach this
goal they just predicted that it would be at the end of the first quarter of
2012. RecycleWorks has signed up over 20
clients ranging from insurance firms to manufacturing and healthcare facilities
that all share in a common goal of sustainability. Our company provides local
businesses an affordable and convenient recycling solution for their paper,
plastics, cardboard, and metals. Thanks to our dedicated staff and committed
businesses we can confidently say by the end of this calendar year we will have
diverted 50,000 pounds of waste from our local landfills.

We are proud to announce today that RecycleWorks/JunkMan Hauling teamed up with a local college and saved 15,180 pounds of paper from meeting an ill fate at the landfill. Someone ordered a few too many brochures that were taking up precious space. Instead of just dumping the brochures that were packaged in forty pound boxes, we were able to take them to a local Recycling Company who will be able to not only recycle the brochures but also the boxes in which they were packaged. The paper will be wrapped in tight bales and transported to a paper mill, where it will be recycled into new paper! The cardboard boxes will be recycled into “new” boxes or packaging, brown paper bags, mailing tubes, or
paperboard such as ceral or shoe boxes!
